Ornamental Pear Trees

Pretty. Awful.

Callery pear trees are medium-sized, rapid growing, deciduous trees that were introduced to the US from Asia in the early 1900s. The ‘Bradford’ and ‘Chanticleer’ pear are some of the common cultivars.

Callery pear trees produce fruit that is spread by birds, which then create dense thickets of pear trees that displace native plants and harm our natural or restored areas. Please be aware that ornamental pear trees are still available for purchase at nurseries.

Ornamental Pear Trees are an Invasive Species

These trees cause harm to the natural habitat, spread quickly, and create dense monocultures that replace natural tree species.

Removing just one tree can make a difference!
